Oral paste for the treatment of worm infections in horses and foals (8 weeks of age and older).

Worm infestations caused by adult stages of roundworms, particularly ascarids (Parascaris equorum), small strongylids (Cyastomum spp ., Triodontophorus spp.) and large strongyles (Strongylus edentatus, S. equinus, S. vulgaris), oxyures (Oxyuris equi), and tapeworms (Anoplocephala perfoliata). Efficacy against Anoplocephala perfoliata is variable.

May be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Dosage

Nematel-P is intended for a single oral administration to horses.

For the treatment of ascarids, small and large strongyles, and oxyures, the recommended dosage is 19 mg of pyrantel embonate per kg of body weight. One injector is intended for the treatment of 600 kg of body weight (see scale on the injector), and each injector is divided into marked sections. The amount in one section is sufficient for the treatment of 50 kg of body weight

For the treatment of tapeworms, the recommended dose is 38 mg of pyrantel embonate per kg of body weight. One syringe is intended for the treatment of 350 kg of body weight (see the scale on the syringe), and each syringe is divided into marked sections. The amount in two sections is sufficient for the treatment of 50 kg of body weight.

To ensure accurate dosing, the weight must be determined as precisely as possible; the accuracy of the dosing device should be verified.

The calculated and desired amount of paste can be set and locked in place using the adjustment screw on the injector’s shaft. Next, remove the protective cap from the injector, open the horse’s mouth, and squirt the gel as far back on the tongue as possible, then let the animal swallow. Swallowing can be encouraged by placing a hand under the chin and lifting the head.
