The veterinary drug has sustained efficacy and protects sheep from infection or reinfection with the following parasites for the period indicated:

Type of protection period (days):
Teladorsagia circumcincta 35
Haemonchus contortus 35

In clinical trials, after experimental and natural infection, the veterinary drug has been shown to be effective against certain benzimidazole-resistant strains of:
- Haemonchus contortus
- Teladorsagia circumcincta
- Trichostrongylus colubriformis
- Cooperia curticei

METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
Should be given as a single oral drench of 1 ml/5 kg body weight, corresponding to 0.2 mg moxidectin/kg body weight and 10 mg triclabendazole/kg body weight, with a standard drencher. For proper dosing, body weight should be determined as accurately as possible; the accuracy of the dosing device should be checked.

If animals are treated in groups rather than individually, they should be grouped by weight and the dose to be administered should be calculated accordingly, this to avoid under or overdosing.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.

WAITMENT TIME
(Organ) meat: 31 days.
Milk: Not approved for use in ewes producing milk for human consumption, including during the dry period. Do not use within 1 year prior to first lambing in ewes intended to produce milk for human consumption.

SIDE EFFECTS
None known.

SPECIAL WARNINGS & SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
The following situations should be avoided as they promote the development of resistance and may eventually lead to treatment ineffectiveness:
- repeated use of anthelmintics of the same group over a prolonged period,
- underdosing, due to underestimation of body weight, incorrect administration of the veterinary drug or a dosing device that is not or incorrectly calibrated (if applicable).
Suspected clinical cases of resistance to anthelmintics should be further investigated by appropriate tests (e.g. Faecal Egg Count Reduction Test). If the test result clearly indicates resistance to a particular anthelmintic, an anthelmintic of a different group with a different mechanism of action should be administered.

Resistance to macrocyclic lactones in Teladorsagia in sheep is reported in a number of countries, including within the EU. In 2008, moxidectin resistance was very rare throughout Europe; it has been reported in a single case with a Teladorsagia circumcincta strain resistant to levamisole, benzimidazole and ivermectin. Resistance to triclabendazole has been reported for Fasciola hepatica in sheep in a number of European countries. Therefore, the use of this veterinary drug should be based on national epidemiological data (regional and farm level) regarding parasite susceptibility and advised on how to limit further resistance development to worming agents. These precautions are particularly important when moxidectin is used to control resistant strains.

Special precautions for use in animals.
This veterinary drug should not be used to treat single infections.
All animals within a group should be treated.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to the animals
Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
Wash hands after use.
Do not smoke, drink or eat during the use of this veterinary medicine.
Wear impervious rubber gloves during use.

Other precautions concerning environmental effects.

Moxidectin meets the criteria for a (highly) persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) substance; therefore, environmental exposure to moxidectin should be limited to the extent possible. Treatments should be administered only as needed and should be based on the number of eggs in the feces or assessment of the risk of infestation of an animal and/or herd.

Like other macrocyclic lactones, moxidectin has a potentially harmful effect on non-target organisms, particularly aquatic organisms and manure fauna.

  • Moxidectin-containing feces excreted into the pasture by treated animals may temporarily reduce the abundance of manure-eating organisms. Following treatment of sheep with the veterinary drug, amounts of moxidectin potentially toxic to dung-fly species may be excreted for a period of 4 days and dung-fly abundance may decrease during that period. In laboratory tests, moxidectin has been found to have temporary effects on dung beetle reproduction; however, studies with emerged residues do not indicate long-term effects. Nevertheless, in the case of repeated treatments with moxidectin (as with veterinary drugs of the same class of anthelmintic), it is advisable not to treat animals on the same pasture each time to allow dung beetle populations to recover.

  • Moxidectin is intrinsically toxic to aquatic organisms, including fish. The veterinary drug should only be used according to label instructions. Based on the excretion profile of moxidectin when administered as the oral formulation to sheep, treated animals should not have access to waterways for the first 3 days after treatment.
