Seaweed contains various minerals (calcium and potassium, among others) and vitamins (including B12) and is therefore an important supplement for young horses and older horses that are or have been in poor pasture or have poor condition.
It is excellent for promoting molting, provides good hair structure, a shiny coat, and appears to have a beneficial effect on coat pigmentation.

Especially in horses with dark coats, seaweed can contribute to a deep color and radiant shine.

It is also claimed to help with rheumatic disorders and inflamed joints, but this effect should not be taken too strongly.
Seaweed is also used to combat iodine deficiencies and associated abnormalities and/or disease conditions.
In cases of poor shedding or hoof growth, goiter, fatigue or lethargy in lactating mares with insufficient milk yield or milk with low iodine levels, it is recommended to feed zedit supplement.
