Linseed is the seed of the flax plant. Sectolin Linseed oil is oil from the first cold pressing of linseed, which preserves important nutrients.

Flaxseed oil is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and is particularly rich in the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Fresh grass contains a nice amount of omega-3 fatty acids, but a ration with grains contains a lot of omega-6 fatty acids. Horses with little or no pasture and a lot of concentrates therefore often consume too much omega-6. Omega-6 plays a role in the regulation of inflammation. An excess of omega-6 fatty acids can disrupt this regulation. In these cases it is important to get the ratio of omega-3 and -6 fatty acids back into balance. Linseed oil is therefore very suitable for rebalancing the ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in a ration.

In addition to fatty acids, linseed oil also contains vitamin E and tryptophan and various minerals such as iron, copper and magnesium. Linseed oil helps soothe mucous membranes and plays a role in maintaining healthy skin and a shiny coat.
