Monk's pepper ground (Agnus Castus)

Vitex agnus-castus.

PROPERTIES: anaphrodisiac, hormone balancer.

Agnus castus is increasingly used in horses, where tranquilizers were of no use this herb proved to work miraculously.
It is difficult to find out in horses if difficult, troublesome or annoying behavior is due to a hormone problem, but if you observe a cycle you can certainly safely assume this.
Of course, this is not the answer to all hormone problems in mares, but it does have a beneficial effect in most cases, and is an excellent alternative to implants and drugs.
Often a short course of treatment is sufficient to restore hormones to proper balance.
Some mares can react dangerously and unpredictably in the period before they become in heat, and many owners have been faced with the choice of having the mare put to sleep, or having her mated with the hope that a foal will bring change.
Having these types of mares covered is not the solution, not to mention possibly breeding with horses not suitable for continued breeding, the mental and physical problems that disappear during pregnancy can return just as quickly after the foal is weaned.

What is monk's pepper?
Monk's pepper, also known as Vitex agnus-castus or chaste tree, is a plant often used in herbal medicine. The berries of the monk's pepper plant are dried and processed into supplements used for various health purposes, including in veterinary medicine and especially in horses. The use of monk pepper in horses is similar to that in humans, mainly because of its hormone-regulating properties. HorseAdds Monk Pepper consists of 100% dried monk pepper grains.

Monk's pepper for horses
Monk's pepper for horses works by acting on the pituitary gland to influence and regulate hormone production. As a result, it can help mares who suffer from behavioral problems or mood swings associated with stallionhood. It supports a normal cycle in the mare and helps with discomforts before, around or during stallionhood.

In addition to the well-known properties of monk's pepper to support the mare, monk's pepper is also commonly used as natural support for horses with Cushing's disease, or PPID (Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction). In horses with PPID, the function of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland is impaired, resulting in too low a release of dopamine, which should inhibit the production of hormones. This in turn leads to high ACTH levels in the blood, which poses health risks to the horse. If you want to learn more about PPID, the disease and tips on how to deal with a horse with PPID, we encourage you to read our blog.

Monk pepper has an interesting effect on dopamine levels in the body, which is one of the reasons why it can be useful.
An overview of the relationship between monk pepper and dopamine:

Dopamine effects: Monk pepper contains substances called dopamine agonists. These substances can increase dopamine activity in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter involved in many functions, including mood, motivation and hormone regulation.

Regulation of prolactin: One of the main effects of increased dopamine activity is the reduction of prolactin production. Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that is involved in milk production, the menstrual cycle and reproductive functions. By increasing dopamine levels, monk's pepper can help lower prolactin levels, which can be useful in conditions such as hyperprolactinemia and Cushing's disease in horses.

Cushing's disease: In horses, Cushing's disease (PPID) is characterized by overproduction of certain hormones by the pituitary gland. Monk's pepper can help regulate this overproduction by increasing dopamine levels.

DOSAGE HORSE:
5 to 10 grams of Monk's Pepper GROUNDED daily through the feed.

CAUTION:
Agnus Castus has no indications on use during pregnancy.
If you want to breed with the mare, it is wise to stop feeding during pregnancy.
However, you can feed the herb before mare mating to help regulate the cycle.

Monk's pepper HEEL (Agnus Castus) - natural hormonal support for horses
Monk's pepper (Vitex agnus-castus) naturally supports the hormonal balance and behavior of mares. This herb acts as a hormone regulator and can help with stallion-related restlessness and mood swings. Monk's pepper is also often used to support horses with PPID (Cushing's disease). A natural alternative to synthetic remedies.
