Description

Bimectin

REGNL 10453

With Ivermectin, for horses and ponies up to 600 kilos.
Very suitable for large, professional stables.

Tasty paste (apple flavour) for oral administration in horses.
The dose is 0.2 mg ivermectin per kg body weight once.
The dose injector contains 120 mg of ivermectin sufficient for 600 kilos.

BIMECTIN® contains ivermectin as active ingredient.
Ivermectin is active against gastrointestinal worms, lungworms and ectoparasites (including hornet larvae, blood-sucking lice, ticks and mites).
Resistance has been demonstrated in some nematodes (including Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia circumcincta and Trichostrongylus colubriformis).
Resistance in sensitive ectoparasites is not (yet) known.
Ivermectin resistant worm species exhibit partial
cross-resistance (differences in potency between derivatives) with other avermectins and milbemycins.

Ivermectin belongs to the group of avermectins, chemotherapeutics that are similar in structure to macrolide antibiotics (macrocyclic lactones).
They are not clearly effective against bacteria or fungi.
Ivermectin is highly lipophilic and therefore almost insoluble in water.
Avermectins interfere with the neurotransmitters glutamic acid and gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA), causing disturbances in nerve signal transmission (opening of the chloride ion channels).
This results in paralysis and eventual death of susceptible parasites.
In mammals, they cross the blood-brain barrier only slightly (based on selective toxicity).
